Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Tuesday in the Framework of the Official Visit to Ireland met Charlie O´Connor, Chairman of the Group on Interparliamentary Connections with Ukraine.

 

In the course of the meeting V. Lytvyn and C. O´Connor discussed great number of issues regarding the Ukrainian-Irish relations and emphasized the necessity of the further development of bilateral cooperation. According to V. Lytvyn, "we have a lot of mutual interests though the Parliaments are supposed to be on the top of the cooperation between two countries."

 

The Parties briefed that there is a lot in common between our countries, thus it is extremely necessary to uphold the bilateral relations on a regular basis. "It is of vital importance our aims concerning the cooperation in the numerous spheres were taken into the field of the practical actions", - V. Lytvyn emphasized.

 

The Head of the Ukrainian parliament is convinced that we need completion of the negotiations regarding the Convention of avoiding of the double income and property tax. Furthermore, V. Lytvyn declared that the perspective of the treaty signing between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of Ireland on the simplification of the visa registration is supposed to be completed this year.

 

During the conversation the special attention was paid to the issue on the cooperation between two countries in the sphere of agricultural field. It was declared that Ukraine is one of the leading world corn traders and Ireland is specialized on the cattle breeding. In this context, the Irish parliamentarians expressed special interest in the establishment of the grain state deliveries. In his turn, V. Lytvyn stated that Ukraine is ready to work in this direction.

 

 

The Irish Parliamentarians from the group of interparliamentary connections with Ukraine also took part in the meeting. They emphasized the high level of the activity of Borys Bazylevskii, the ambassador extraordinary of Ukraine to Ireland who, according to his words "was a big fiend of the Irish Parliament."

 

As it was announced, 23-24 March Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, will stay with the official visit in Ireland.

 

The Program of the visit envisages the meetings of V. Lytvyn with Brian Cowen, the Prime Minister of Ireland, and Micheál Martin, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada will meet Pat Moylan, Speaker of the Senate of Ireland, Séamus Kirk, Chairman of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Ireland, Bernard J. Durkan, Chairman of the Committee on European Matters, John Perri, Chairman of the Committee on European Legislation, and Michael Woods, Chairman of the Common Committee of Foreign Affairs.

 

In the scope of the official visit, Volodymyr Lytvyn will meet Enda Kenny, leader of Fine Gael Party and Michael D. Higgins, Deputy Chairman of the Labour Party.
